Senex Progression
Well, the ambitious plans I made last week to work on three songs didn’t quite come to pass – I did, however, finish off bass work on Elmo’s “Senex” which I’m pretty happy with. The bass and I are in California now where Erik and I intend to work on a bit of music tomorrow, which will hopefully catapult me into a bunch of recording next week. Everything seems pretty unpredictable though, which keeps things interesting, yet chaotic. The work for Corpse on Pumpkin is complete, and the Unwed Sailor site is inching further toward its publication, which means that I should have much more time available for musical projects soon, as well as the long in-progress An Umbrella Web site.
On a different note, I conversed with Bradford a few days ago and learned that his latest musical project is taking place this weekend. He informed me that he’s recording a brand new song with the vocal aid of his father Joe Johnson, who put out a couple of albums a few years back.
So there you have it — the latest from both Bradford and I. Hope the second half of the summer fares well for all of you! Farewell for now.
No commentsElmo’s “Proletariat” Out for Listening
Now, referring to yesterday’s announcement, logic would say I ought leave the first MP3 up for awhile before announcing a new one, but I’ve reached that plateau, you know. The one that’s beyond logic and common sense. The latest Elmo recording, entitled "Proletariat" is performed by Kirk Brown (vocals/guitars) formerly of Cellophane the Midwives, myself, Justin Norman (bass) and Robby Ogden (drums) of Cardcan, as well as Jason Staniger (piano) formerly of Battle Hymns. The project was in the works all of last summer, finally recorded later November of 2003, and now it’s complete. Download away: Proletariat (192 kbps MP3, 7.5 MB)
No commentsElmo Recording Final Song Next Month
Hello everyone! It’s been awhile since I last updated everyone on our current condition. Cardboard Canary is still awaiting reunion next month, although some very exciting developments are happening for a live performance next month. I’ll let you know when the date is set. In the meantime, “Floating at 35 Miles Up” reached its height this month at #4 on the Top 40 MP3.com Grunge Charts, thanks to all of your support! The big news now is that Elmo (Kirk Brown, Robby Ogden and I) is recording at SongSmythe Studios next month! I’m flying back to Iowa in order to complete what is likely our last song, “Horizon.” Kirk is taking a break from music right now, Robby is playing in a new jazz/funk band, and I’m busy preparing for new things next month with Cardboard Canary, so Elmo will likely cease to function after this. However, I will be posting the last two songs – “Senex” and “Horizon” next month. Until then, keep checking the site, because I imagine I’ll have more exciting announcements to make in the following couple weeks.

A quick note to those who have interest – Elmo, whom I played bass for and Robby drummed for, now has an MP3.com site here.

Elmo MP3s
The Elmo EP was successfully recorded earlier this week. This was a two-song project, a couple months in the making from Kirk Brown, Justin, Robby, and Blake. You can now hear both of these songs at a special Web site here.

No, friends, we aren’t doing a side project with muppets, although that would be wonderfully bizarre and rancid. The latest musical project from Kirk Brown (formerly vocals/guitar for Cellophane the Midwives) is called Elmo, and is on its way into the studio tonight with myself on bass, Robby on drums, and Blake playing some piano on one of the two songs.
