CardboardCanary.com: Picture Rotater
Just a brief note but the new picture rotater on the main page now gives you the ability to click on an image relating to a story and then be transported to the related site. Give it a shot if something looks interesting.

1 commentBlake Brown: The Space Between the Ground and Sky
Former Cardboard Canary vocalist/guitarist Blake Brown has a new musical project called The Space Between the Ground and Sky. He plans to make his debut acoustic performance at the Vaudeville Mews in Des Moines, Iowa on Friday, January 4, 2008. Doors open at 9:30 PM and Blake is scheduled to go on at 10:00 PM. If you have the chance, take a listen! He’s planning to perform three new songs, as well as an old Cardboard Canary one.

INTERESTING: I have now arrived in Las Vegas, along with comrades Blake and Erik Brown. On the drive out, the small winged creature I have affectionately dubbed “the wretch” attacked me at night in downtown Denver traffic. Upon reaching the desert, he began vomitting because of the heat, and tried to cram his entire body into his water basket. Foolish wretch.

I’ve now posted an MP3 of the finished studio version of “Anxious Am I” in the Audio section. Yes, that’s right. You can now own a fragment of Cardboard Canary history. Now, it’s on to new things!

No commentsCardboard Canary: I Have Anxiety
For the sake of recording a bit of history, Bradford and I put "Anxious Am I" to digital tape last month, and you can now listen to it at the Cardboard Canary Purevolume site. I’m sure it’ll make its way into the downloads section of this site, but for now, it rests at Purevolume only.

When I was back in Iowa, I met up with Mr. Bradford Johnson and I recorded his parts for both “The Usual Delve” and “Anxious Am I.” Now that I’m back in Vegas, I imagine I’ll be recording my parts to these as well, and we hope to release them on the Internet sometime soon.

Finally, work on the last Cardboard Canary song has begun, and the entire cast has committed to recording it properly before laying it to rest – Blake Brown, Bradford Johnson, Robby Ogden and myself are planning to finish it by the end of the year. For me, the main purpose of recording this song is to finish the Cardboard Canary recording chronicle, and end it on what may have been our highest note – a song which every member of the band put a great deal of influence into. Thus far, Blake’s guitar and vocals have been recorded. Hopefully the rest is soon to follow!
Also, I recently got an e-mail from someone requesting the …And So Begins the Serene Flight into Stormclouds EP. We no longer have loads of printed, packaged copies of this EP, but essentially all of its material can be found on 8 Scraps of Artistic Litter in a Shiny New Package which is still $8 in the store, and comes with a free Cardboard Canary t-shirt.
Cardboard Canary: Minor Site Updates, Music
Some quick notes about this site — All of the video (which was not previously working) now works, so anyone interested can download the three videos here. The news section has now been re-organized once more, so all entries from 2004 are in the 2004 (surprise!) section, which contains many of the details of last year’s band efforts. Other sections of this site have updated to reflect the Cardboard Canary end as well. In new, and much less dreary news, things have gone well thus far in working with drummer Andy Roberts as we plug away on new material. Also, Erik and I are planning to go into a studio and record early next month for a five song EP. Once again, everything seems solid on this, but I’ll let you know when and if it comes to pass. Songs we hope to place on this album include some of the never-performed-live material from last year’s first attempt at the An Umbrella band and some of the first collaborations between Erik and I from 2002, when we played under the Taxidermy Penguin moniker.
No commentsFinal Show Videos
Many of you have requested videos of the final Cardboard Canary show from last month, and after a freaking ton of trouble, I finally have the first of many (I hope) of these final videos. To start out, I’m feeding you the tasty biscuit of “Anxious Am I,” (12.3 MB) since it was never released on an album. Coming up next, I suspect you’ll find “Agape” since it falls into the same category. Request what you want in the little discussion area, and perhaps you’ll see it in the near future. Videos from the first Vaudeville Mews show are also up for grabs if requested.
In other news, we still plan on beginning the drive back to Iowa in just three weeks to begin work on the two new bands with Robby. We’re all very much looking forward to getting back to our collaborative art.
