Recovery
It turns out that the road to recovery after having wisdom teeth removed is a lot longer than expected. The past week and a half have been a major headache, which has caused the musical side of my mind to shut down and want to sleep all the time. Despite this, I’ve been occupying myself with developing the full official Web site for Unwed Sailor, which is meeting with some rather difficult roadblocks. I’ve put up a temporary page at www.unwedsailor.com with tour dates and three downloadable MP3s for now while I continue working on the Flash version. I also put up a few screenshots and descriptions of my Web work thus far at www.shriekingtree.com. I plan on resuming recording for Grimfeather early next week. Until then, I’ll continue digging chunks of half-digested food out of the four gaping wounds in my mouth.

I uploaded eleven new animations I’ve been working on for the past couple of months to The Books’ official site today. There is one animation for each track on their newest album, “Lost and Safe.” They’re all located in the Living Room for those of you who would like to see them. In other news, after having my wisdom teeth removed, the drugs had many wonderful effects on me. I apparently talked about beating Bruce Willis in a photography contest and told the nurses I was going to knife them in their backs.
Grimfeather Update
Well, Erik and I had a pretty productive weekend of polishing demos which we’ve now mailed out to other musicians around the country who we’re hoping will join us in recording the full-blown studio versions of these tracks. Former Cardcan drummer Robby Ogden has already said he’ll be recording drum tracks later this month or early July. Next week I plan to start recording bass, piano and guitar parts for a couple of the new ones. I have a lot of ideas, so I’m pretty excited to be getting back to recording music after a very, very long stretch of Web work. I’d like a proper balance of visual, musical and written art to come about at some point, and hopefully that will be soon. I have an appointment to have my wisdom teeth removed this afternoon, and I’m told I’ll probably be incapacitated for the weekend due to heavy pain medication, hence I’ll have some time to relax in agonizing, mouth-wrenching sleep. Wish me well, and enjoy your dentistless weekend (those of you have them).
No commentsBlake, Robby, Bradford Show
As a reminder, all three of the other former Cardboard Canary members (besides myself) will be playing a show at the House of Bricks in Des Moines tomorrow night at 5:00 PM for $5 a ticket at the door (all ages). Although the members will be playing in seperate bands, it will likely be quite an entertaining show. Blake and Robby will be performing the old Cardboard Canary song "Opaque Windows" for the first time since the farewell show last July along with a brand new song. Bradford and his band, Rosefield Rivals, will be performing for the last time live before Bradford and drummer Aaron head off to college. So there will be a farewell and an echo of the past/future, and I wish them all well. I certainly wish I could be there, but Erik and I will be continuing the recording process for our first album tomorrow. You can read more about the Rosefield Rivals breakup at www.rosefieldrivals.net and get more show details in the Shows section of this site.

Grimfeather will be hard at work Friday through Sunday polishing off the the five songs we’ve recorded thus far. Some of these are being sent to the magnificent Robby Ogden in Iowa to have drum parts recorded (hopefully) later this month. In case you missed it before, you can download the first Grimfeather demo at www.download.com/grimfeather or from the link at the top of this page. On another note, please check the Shows section for a very interesting show this Sunday! More information on that tomorrow.

Former Cardboard Canary singer/guitarist Bradford Johnson’s band Rosefield Rivals has announced that they will be breaking up today after recording an EP entitled "The Rose" and playing shows on a near-insane basis (almost one show every three days, it seemed). The group, which was a combination of three former Half the Facts members and Bradford, was based in Des Moines, Iowa and won several band battles during their brief existence. The following statement is from Rosefield Rivals bassist Elliot Tommingo:
"Yes, the rumors are true. Rosefield Rivals will be breaking up this month. After a year of amazing support and experience RR will be ending it’s quick and fun career. This break up in no way came from any band fighting or negative feelings. Basically Bradford and Aaron decided they don’t want to play music for the rest of there lives, and it wasn’t fair to make everyone think they did. However, Jeff and Elliot will still continue with music. The last RR show of all time will be this Sunday, June 5th at the House of Bricks in Des Moines, IA. Rosefield wants to thank all the fans and support that we’ve recieved. It’s been awesome."
Any further news will be reported here and at www.rosefieldrivals.net.
