We Promise, This Is It.
Yes, yes, yes. We left last September and that was our “Farewell Des Moines” show. The difference between that and this is that this our last show, period. You see, since the band officially ‘broke up’ while the members were all in different parts of the U.S., we never got to bid a proper farewell. Our most recent show was in Phoenix, Arizona, in November at which around 1,400 people were present after winning the battle of the bands there. However, Bradford and Robby were both missing, and we’d hate to have it end in such a mangled fashion. So, on July 2nd, at the Vaudeville Mews in Des Moines, IA, we will play our final show. I’m pretty sure of that. Beforehand, Bradford and Robby will play a set in their (also defunct) jazz/funk band. If you would like to help promote, please visit this link at which during the next few days, downloadable flyers will be available. Show details are in the Shows section, as always. Thank you to all who are still listening!

Hello again! After last week’s dreary, dry report, I must report that I’m in better spirits (for those millions of you who keep close track of my personal demeanor changes). I am at work re-writing the eight months’ worth of material that was deleted in the tragic laptop incident, and have already repaired the Band and Audio sections! And, as a treat (or torture) to you, we’ve released the full version of “Floating At 35 Miles Up” for download. Yes, that horrid, insincere blob of self-mockery is now available for you to listen to in all its shimmering glory. Along with that is the better-quality version of our old school horror song, “Chicken 12.”
And as another reminder, please note that our return show is at the Vaudeville Mews on July 2nd at 5:00 PM! Tickets are $5 at the door, and the profits will head toward our upcoming musical projects, which we all hope will be another step in growth from the original Cardboard Canary seed.
After this show, our studio recording of "The Usual Delve" should be available later this summer. I haven’t seen most of you in a long, long time, so I truly hope to visit with many of you after the show!

It’s amazing how much a computer crash can do to you. After my laptop’s fan decided it was tired of life and took the suicide route, my hard drive fried, killing a large amount of the writing I’d done from October 2003 to present. One thing I’ve learned from all this is that important information needs to be backed up. The Audio and Band sections have to be recreated now, but those should be up shortly again.
The “Bil” film has been cancelled due to sharp disagreements between director Ben Anderson and I. However, we hope to pick the project up again when we have a larger budget available. The story, on the other hand, will be preserved on the upcoming www.AnUmbrella.com, which is the latest project of a new art group that I’ll be involved in.
July 2nd still holds as the date of the last Cardboard Canary performance, with the studio recording of “The Usual Delve” following a week afterward. Blake and I are very excited to be back playing with our old comrades again one last time.
Robby and Bradford’s jazz/funk band recently split, so Bradford has joined former gigmates Half the Facts, doing vocals and guitar on their upcoming material. Blake and Erik are at work playing with a drummer in California, recording demos of their new material. I hope to join them in August to start playing live shows with them in October, as well as starting my own new band for which drummer Andy Roberts and I are recording a demo during June and July.
Look for more frequent updates now that my computer has been cured. Thanks for your continual site visits and downloads. It’s very encouraging to all of us who are still writing.
